Friends, rather than selling and shipping seeds, we now share seeds as an embodied gift practice. Learn how to receive seeds from us & here are our FAQs.
NATIVE A gorgeous and easy-to-grow perennial, beneficial pollinators flock to the resplendent spires of purple vervain from early July all the way to frost. Vervain grows three to five feet high, thriving in full as well as part-sun as well as wet conditions or dry.
Medicinally, the flowering aerial tops of Blue Vervain has been used for many generations as a gentle nervine to help ease anxiety. We most often tincture our vervain to combine with skullcap and motherwort for our medicine cabinet, inspired by our dear friend Geraldine of Suntrap Botanical.
When to sow (Transplant Only): ~6 weeks before last frost
Sowing and seedling care: At Fruition we sow in soil blocks, 2 seeds per block, thinned to one. Bottom-water to avoid displaced seed. Harden off seedlings (reduce water & temp 3-7 days) & transplant after frost. Weed & water well; mulch to reduce weed & watering pressure.
Seeding Depth: barely cover (light needed for germination)
Days to Germination:10 days at 70°F Full/Part Shade
Plant spacing after thinning: 12 inches; rows 2-3 feet apart
Days to Flower: 80 Height: 3-5 feet
Flower –
Bought and used the next immediate growing season. Out of 6 types of flowers in a 72 start tray, these were the only seeds that didn’t come up. 🙁 100% failure rate for the packet I received. May try again next year….
