Here is how to use spring steel hoops + floating row cover, step by step:
1) Sow your seeds, the sooner the better, especially if you want to harvest some before spring.
2) After you sow them, place the spring steel hoops over the bed every five feet.
3) Drape the floating row cover over it, so it’s not too loose that it’s flapping in a breeze but not too taught, so it might tear.
4) Weight the edges with stones, or anything else that’s easy to move!
5) A bit of snow is just fine for the row cover, but just before it’s really accumulating, remove the hoops and simply lay the row cover, still weighted, over the greens.
The row cover will help them grow that much faster this fall and you can totally lift it off in winter, when the snow melt allows, to harvest greens. Once the snows melt for good, they’ll start to re-grow like mad. Once the snow is gone, put the hoops back over for even faster regrowth.
