85 days to dry bean harvest | Phaseolus vulgaris

HEIRLOOM We are humbled and grateful to offer this extraordinary bean that has grown here in the Finger Lakes of New York for centuries before Colombus arrived. Our indigenous Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) ancestors have selected, saved and shared these beans for untold generations and indeed they are our first dry beans to mature in our short seasons as well as our most productive dry bean, by far. Delicious and beautiful, Haudenosaunee Skunk is a perfect choice for a three sisters’ garden with any dry corn (our Glass Gem and Italy Hill popcorns are my favorite) and vining winter squash.

I love drying these beans so much. Each one is like opening a unique gift, the swirls and designs as unique as fingerprints. I didn’t even save any to eat my first year. Instead, I tucked them safely away to plant many, many more my second year and shared them with all my gardening (and non-gardening) friends.
