Sugar Ann Dwarf Snap Pea

52 days to harvest Pisum sativum

Sugar Ann Dwarf Snap Pea is always the first pea we harvest each spring! We love how easy it is to trellis (or not trellis) her 2 to 3-foot vines, cascading sugary sweet pods. Their dwarf habit makes them perfect for containers or small gardens; we always plant them in our large garden simply because we’ll enjoy them for weeks ahead of the full-size snap peas so the combination of the two makes for 5+ weeks of glorious peas.

Her early maturity also makes Sugar Ann an ideal fall pea: sow in late July or early August for a harvest at the end of September of pods sweet as can be. (Pods that develop in the cool temperatures of fall convert many of their starches into sugar and they are even sweeter than any summer pea!)

And friends, know that your packets of Sugar Ann will be about 85% Sugar Ann and 15% dwarf snow pea. This is because seed stocks were mixed in large-scale seed production years ago and haven’t been cleaned up yet. We are proud to be returning Sugar Ann to its pure varietal but we’re not there yet; thanks for your understanding and we’re confident you’ll appreciate the interim diversity!

Would you love to receive these seeds? Rather than selling and shipping, we share seeds as an embodied gift practice.
