And Then We Sang: Where You Go I Will Go

I learned this song from my mother as we drove south from Denali and I hope you’ll enjoy singing it in your garden as much as we do!

Here are the words, from the Book of Ruth:

Where you go I will go, Beloved

Where you go, I will go (x2)

To your people or my people,

your people are mine.

Your people are my people,

Your divine my divine.

And what are we doing?

We’re emasculating, or removing the pollen-giving (often called male) flowers, of winter squash as we sing. (When we’re not singing, we’re often talking about how to re-imagine botanical vocabulary, so often binary and violent.) This technique is a classic way to produce F1 Hybrid seed and we additionally hand-pollinate the open female flowers just to ensure heavy seed set.

may the songs we sing amplify abundance for us all!

  1. Hello!

I just wanted you to know that the mermaid cabbages I planted this spring are so beautiful and almost ready to harvest. Also, I’m encouraged to sing songs while bringing in this late summer harvest. Many thanks!
