These massive zinnias are luminous, absolutely exquisite, the color of plums and sunset. Purple Giant is impressive both in bloom volume as well as height, easily reaching over 4′ with long, strong stems ideal for cutting from early July through frost.
To see if a zinnia is at peak harvest for cutting, gently shake the stem from about eight inches below the bloom. If the stem bends even slightly, it’s not quite ready. Once the stem is stiff, harvest! We find zinnias last well over one week in a vase and often two, especially when kept out of direct sunlight.
Transplant (recommended): Sow indoors 4 weeks before last frost, keeping soil surface moist until emergence. At Fruition we sow in soil blocks, and a heat mat will help maintain an accurate temperature. When seedlings have true leaves, transplant into larger containers (avoid plants becoming root bound).
