Friends, rather than selling and shipping seeds, we now share seeds as an embodied gift practice. Learn how to receive seeds from us & here are our FAQs.
HEIRLOOM Vibrant cascades of deep magenta seedheads topple six feet to the ground below and friends, don’t be daunted, Love Lies Bleeding is just so easy to grow. She seems to thrive in any soil and needs no trellis. If you’re looking for any easy flower to grow that blossoms for a long time, amaranths and cosmos are a dream come true. She’s glorious both fresh and dry in bouquets as well as for our friend’s chickens to enjoy when she sets seed! Amaranth is also a delectably quick-growing microgreen.
If you’re growing amaranth as a cut flower, sow several successions through early July for consistent harvest through frost.
Transplant: At Fruition we sow in soil blocks indoors 4 weeks before last frost; harden off & transplant after last frost with 6 to 12 inches between plants.
Direct Sow: Shallowly sow 5 seeds per foot & thin to 1 every 12-15 inches as leaves begin to touch. Savor your thinnings! Leaves are delicious at many stages; younger leaves are more tender and mild.
Sowing Date: Direct sow after last frost
Seed Depth: 1/4 inch Days to Germination: 7-10 days at 70-75° F
Plant spacing: 6-12 inches
Days to Flower: 60 Height: 4-5 feet
Harvest: Fresh — when ¾ of tiny flowers are open. Dry — when seed has begun to set & flowers feel firm, right-side up in a bucket to dry.
