Easy to grow and ready-made for containers, Buddha’s Hand is a compact 2′ tall and covered with glorious orange blossoms buzzing with hummingbirds and butterflies. She thrives in gardens, containers, and cracks in sidewalks alike. With her compact nature, Buddha’s Hand has become one of our go-to companion plants, a raucous tuft at the ends of our garden rows. With abundant food and protective habitat, she feeds butterflies, bees and countless native pollinators from early summer to frost. Plus, her seeds are easy to collect with plenty to share, so you’ll enjoy her for years if not generations to come!
Also a fabulous dye plant, Buddha’s Hand petals are also delicious tossed on salads, cakes & spring rolls.

Or, to transplant, sow indoors in soil blocks 4 weeks before last frost, keeping soil surface moist until emergence. When seedlings have true leaves, transplant into larger containers. Transplant out after frost danger.

Our pollinator friends went wild for this cosmos. I tried both indoor sowing as recommended in the guide and later in the season direct sowing – it reaches maturity really fast, and I think the direct sown ones would have grown to be as robust as the ones I started in soil blocks had I started them sooner before frosts started hitting. Regardless, it was a delight to see all the buzzing about these plants, and the seed is very easy to save 🙂

Absolutely beautiful, by far my favorite flowers right now. Planted them around my watermelon pumpkin tunnel to attract pollinators. They started growing fast and look unreal like a digitally edited flower in a magazine. The colors are out of this world to me. I just spread the seeds in the area and put barely any dirt on top and watered in. Happy to see them randomly pop up. I planted the Diablo as well as these and they are a stunning mix. Wish I could share a picture.
