Friends, rather than selling and shipping seeds, we now share seeds as an embodied gift practice. Learn how to receive seeds from us & here are our FAQs.
Sweeter and more tender than red beets, Touchstone’s brilliant yellow root holds their color when cooked with delectable yellow-stemmed greens. Yellow beets tend to germinate less, especially in cool soils, compared to red beets. At Fruition, we plant ours in late May/early June and again every few weeks for successions of roots all summer long with our final succession for winter storage sown in early August. Touchstone Gold Beet roots can get over 2 pounds and still remain tender when thinned and watered well!
Planting Method: Direct Seed Only
When to sow: From 4 weeks before last frost (soil temp 45°F) until 8 weeks before first frost
Sowing and seedling care: Sow 8-10 seeds per foot. For a continuous beet harvest, sow every 2-3 weeks.
Seed Depth: 1/2 inch Sun Needs: Full preferred (more sun = more abundance)
Days to Germination: 17 days at 55°F; 5 days at 75°F
Spacing after thinning: 3 inches; 12-18 inches between rows
Days to Harvest: 55
Harvest… and cook!: A roast beet salad, served cold and with plenty of fresh herbs, is one of our favorite summer snacks!
