Organic Rainbow Swiss Chard

Planting Method: Direct Sow or Transplant; thrives in containers too

To Direct Sow: Mid-spring (after heavy frosts end) through mid-summer, sow 1 seed per foot, eat as baby greens and/or thin to keep growing for full size.

For Transplanting: ~4 weeks before final frost, sow 2 seeds per cell or soil block and thin to 1. Harden off and transplant after heavy frosts end.

Seed Depth: 1/2 inch       Days to Germination: 5 days at 75°F (24°C); 10 days at 60°F (15°C)

Sun Needs: Full/Part

Spacing (after thinning/transplanting): 10-12 inches

Days to Harvest: 32 for baby; 59 for full size     Height: 1-2 feet

Harvest: Like beets (same Genus, species!), chard will grow 3-5 plants from within a single “seed” — meaning thinning is extra crucial, and the good news is these thinnings are also delicious! At Fruition, we are often harvesting chard through the end of November in the garden and even longer when protected by hoops and floating row cover.
