HEIRLOOM If you’re hunting for a pie pumpkin, Winter Luxury Pie Pumpkin is the finest we’ve found. Her abundant flesh is smooth and sweet, especially compared to most pie pumpkins. Each five to six-pound pumpkin is perfect for two pies and I confess, we always hesitate to admire her gorgeous silver lattice before we turn her into the oven.
Friends, despite her name, Winter Luxury is not long-storing. We rarely get her to last into December even when perfectly harvested and cured, but that doesn’t stop us from filling our freezer for the long winter ahead.
Planting Method: Direct Sow Recommended
Direct Sow: After frost, late May to early June, sow 2 seeds every 3-4’ in rich soil, thinning to one.
To transplant: Start seedlings 3 weeks before final frost in peat pots or soil blocks for minimal root disturbance. Transplant after last frost with 3-4’ between plants.
Seed Depth: 1 inch Sun Needs: Full
Days to Germination: 5 days at 80°F
Spacing after thinning: 3-4 feet
Plant care: Use floating row cover to protect young seedlings from pests – just be sure to remove it at the time plants start flowering.
Days to Harvest: 100
Height: Full vine
Harvest: Harvest before frost & cure in warm place with good airflow for storage — though know that even cured well, Winter Luxury’s storage potential is limited – we often try to enjoy them by December

I was very pleased with my first attempt at growing these! I love the little pumpkins. They’re the perfect size! The texture is unique compared to what we usually find at stores. Totally worth a try!
