Friends, rather than selling and shipping seeds, we now share seeds as an embodied gift practice. Learn how to receive seeds from us & here are our FAQs.
Delectable diversity: Each plant of Finger Lakes Long Paste, like each of us, is a unique expression of deliciously never-before-seen tomato! Savor a spectrum of San Marzano-style fruits, some more plump and others more large (still others with tapered tops!) combining rich flavor and dense flesh with very few seeds perfect for salsa and sauce as well as salads. A cross between 10 Fingers of Naples and round tomato from Cornell resistant to early and late blight as well as septoria leaf spot (cu 79), Finger Lakes Long Paste matures quickly even in cool, short seasons and is a delicious bridge moving beyond the industrial plant expectations of our time. Finger Lakes Long Paste v.1 is the first generation of the cross with many, many more to come!
Planting Method: Transplant Only
When to sow: 6-8 weeks before last frost
Seed Depth: 1/8 inch Days to Germination: 7-10 at 80°F (27°C)
Sowing and seedling care: Don’t start too early! Sow indoors 2 seeds/cell or soil block, & thin to 1. We recommend sowing on a heat mat at 80°F to emergence, 75°F after. Good light is essential: Younger, less stressed seedlings are healthier and more abundant than older, more stressed seedlings. Pot up to 3-4” pots when first true leaves, submerging 3/4 of the stem below soil.
When to transplant: Harden off & transplant outdoors after frost, again burying stem. Water soil, not leaves. Prune lowest stem “suckers” as they emerge.
Transplant Spacing: 2.5 feet Sun Needs: Full
Days to Harvest: 62
Height: 4.5-5.5 feet (semideterminate)

All of my tomatoes struggled this year with an abnormally wet and cool summer (which also resulted in hordes of slugs with a thirst for everything including tomatoes) but these Finger Lakes Past V1 tomatoes are the only ones that have little to no signs of blight even as we rapidly approach our first frost (zone 5) and are producing consistently! #savedbythefingers
